BALI PINK RIBBON’S 12TH ANNUAL WALK AND FUN RUN GOES VIRTUAL FOR 2020

Yayasan Pita Merah Muda Bali, better known as Bali Pink Ribbon (BPR) has announced that its annual walk and fun run fund raising event will return as a virtual fun run this year in collaboration with 99 Virtual Run application.

The Bali Pink Ribbon 5K Walk and Fun Run will take place on 24-25 October, following the cancellation of the annual event due to the pandemic. It asks people to complete their own 5k in local parks or neighborhoods, either by themselves or in socially distanced small groups.

During the pre-event period, people affected by cancer are invited to share their story to highlight the importance of fundraising for promoting breast cancer awareness in Bali, with opportunities to donate throughout. Participants can then choose to set off on their 5k after the live event or any time over that weekend or complete it any at point throughout October, the breast cancer awareness month.

Gaye Warren, British founder of Bali Pink Ribbon and a breast cancer survivor said, “Over the last few months it might have felt at times like our lives were on hold but one thing that hasn’t stopped throughout the pandemic is breast cancer. Cancer waits for no one. We must continue to make progress for people affected by cancer, who have never needed us more. To do this we need the public’s help and by joining us by running, jogging or walking a 5k in local parks or neighborhoods on 24-25 October, people across Indonesia and even the world can make a real difference. Whether raising IDR 50K or IDR 500K, every Rupiah will help. Just have fun and stay safe. COVID-19 has paused support groups and regional road shows, but with the public’s help we can get back on track and continue our vital work to save more lives.”

For the first ever virtual Bali Pink Ribbon Walk and Run, participants are asked to take on their own ‘race’ distance over a weekend of celebration on 24 and 25 October and raise funds. The virtual event is open to supporters of all ages and abilities, with participants encouraged to choose somewhere in the local neighborhood, such as a park or a garden and ‘race’ their distance, their way.

The event will bring together virtually for the first time participants to support breast cancer awareness efforts in Bali, enabling anyone to take part wherever they are in the world.

Bali Pink Ribbon now in its 12th year of providing the best breast cancer awareness information in Indonesia, as mentioned by Ministry of Health recently.

The money raised will go towards funding free breast screening road shows round Bali and outer island by the kindness of medical team and partner, Prima Medika Hospital and volunteer. Funds will also be allocated to continue having support groups meetings and free healthy living informal talk and demonstrations for breast cancer patients. BPR also provides friendly active support for breast cancer patients and their careers. The long term goal for fund raising is setting up a “rumah singgah” – free hostel for women awaiting treatment in the Denpasar hospitals.

Participants can already sign up for the race on 99 Virtual Race application available on AppStore and PlayStore. By participating, the runner donates IDR 60K to support Bali Pink Ribbon’s social campaigns and activities.
